Over the centuries, opinions about masturbation have changed. It was once considered normal, later it was perceived as an act that leads to degradation and madness, today it is recognized as a physiological need of every human being.
Masturbation helps you get sexual satisfaction and is also a treatment for sexual dysfunction. However, as in the sexual sphere, nothing is simple. See what you need to know about masturbation.
Although masturbation is seen as completely normal today, it is still a shameful subject.
According to some researchers, many people say they have never masturbated and only 18% admit that they are satisfied in this way. However, sexologists believe that the masturbation group is much larger, and people are simply ashamed to talk about such practices. For many people, not only the admission to self-stimulation of the genitals is awful, but also the onanism of children, around which many myths grow. To this day, some believe that sexual self-satisfaction leads to mental illness, infertility, or impotence. Here it should be clear that no study confirms such consequences of masturbation.
l. About children’s masturbation
We can talk about masturbation already in the context of young children. Through it, she learns about her sexuality. The child’s masturbation usually occurs around the age of 10-11, when the child enters puberty and the body begins to produce sex hormones. It is worth remembering, however, that children are interested in their bodies long before puberty. It seems that babies can play with the genitals, and at the age of 3-4, children begin to feel pleasure while touching their genitals – however, it is not a pleasure associated with sexual satisfaction.
Children’s masturbation is considered a natural phenomenon by sexologists.
This means that it should not cause parents anxiety and worry. The reason for intervention occurs only if the child is injured during experiments with his own body. Dangerous games are, for example, an attempt by a girl to put a pen in her vagina.
Masturbation in women
The desire for self-satisfaction and examination of one’s own body does not pass with age. Masturbation is practiced by adults. Until recently, it was thought to occur mainly in men, today we know that women are just as eager to stimulate their genitals. Masturbation of women allows them to know their own body and sexuality, can cause an intense orgasm and is a way to get rid of embarrassment in the sexual sphere. Female masturbation frees her from restrictions and inhibitions, makes her more loving, better, and able to obtain greater satisfaction from close relationships with a partner.
Masturbation is important for both young and older women. Older women due to masturbation moisturize the vagina and reduce the pain caused by dryness. Besides, masturbation in old age prolongs the period of sexual activity.
During masturbation, women primarily stimulate the clitoris, which is an extremely sensitive erogenous zone. I also often caress the entire pubic mound. Women who masturbate often do not reach a single orgasm but reach the top several times until they get tired.
Masturbation in men
Masturbation in men has similar goals to women. However, the satisfaction techniques are more diverse. The most popular are:
1. light pressure on the upper surface of the limb;
2. squeezing the whole limb by hand with energetic movements;
3. irritation of the glans, thus limiting the stimulation of the upper surface of the penis and the brake.
To reduce friction and increase the sensation of pleasure, men can lubricate the hand with a moisturizer before masturbation.
The negative effects of masturbation
Although masturbation is a natural phenomenon and should not be banned, it has its negative effects. Many of them are associated with the negative perception of masturbation. For religious or cultural reasons, we are ashamed of self-satisfaction, which is why we do not admit that we masturbate or try to give it up by force. This leads to a lack of sexual tension and the unpleasant consequences associated with it. It is also worth remembering that there are still many myths about masturbation. Despite advances in sex education, many still believe that self-satisfaction affects mental health, fertility, and the ability to be sexually active. However, medicine rejects these claims and does not specify how often you can masturbate, so we do not start talking about addiction. Even if performed regularly, masturbation should not reduce the desire for traditional sex.
Masturbation addiction
Masturbation itself is not bad, the problem arises when we become addicted to it. In this situation, masturbation becomes an obligation, and the dependent person has to satisfy himself several times a day, even in public places. If the masturbation process does not take place, there is a feeling of anxiety and discomfort, which influences private and professional life. Masturbation addiction can be a problem for both men and women.
Although most of the people I talk to nod their heads in indignation or tolerant superiority when it comes, we know that the problem is particularly thorny, especially among boys and men. Recent studies indicate that almost 100% of boys and 25% of girls masturbate at least occasionally until the age of 15, while among adults masturbation is estimated to be between 95-99% in men and 40-60% in women. Sometimes, especially due to anxiety, caused for example by family tensions, it can occur in very young children.
When we are very young or simply unmarried, we live with the impression that we will get rid of this habit once we enter marriage. Nothing more false. Most of those who thought so were disappointed. Like pornography or other forms of sexual immorality, masturbation cannot be combated by having an active sex life. It helps, of course, to be married and to eliminate, in the intimate relations of the couple, a part of the sexual tension that accumulates, but it takes a little more to get rid of the tyranny of self-satisfaction.
